Our team has been busy working on a number of improvements to the user experience. This update builds on the new features we shared last month, and includes changes to both the teacher side and the learner side.
On the Teacher Side
Evidence Rating Graphs
The lists of evidence in your portfolio modals and combined portfolio details page have been replaced with easier to read graphs that show each evidence's rating and weighting, and includes your custom colors.
Portfolio Modal
Incorporating this new evidence visualization, portfolio modals now provide better visibility and more information.
- Skill: Read the full skill description and see the associated parent skill, if there is one.
- Portfolio Rating: Rate the Portfolio (or Override a Suggested Grade) using a new rubric pop-up window. Review the rubric criteria and enter your grade with one click.

- Skill Policy & Suggested Grade: If you have a skill grading policy in place, a quick description of it is available by clicking the Skill Policy button, and the suggested grade is calculated for you. To use the Suggested Grade, click on the Use Suggestion button and the Current Portfolio Grade will always match the Suggested Grade until you enter an Override.
- Weights: Portfolio Grades have greater validity when they include more evidence. Now you can see with a quick pie chart how many weights have already been added to the portfolio (in blue) and how many additional weights have been assigned on your Projects page that have not yeet been added (in orange).
- Approve Skill: With one click, approve the skill and see that approval more easily.
- Add Evidence Directly to Portfolio: Without creating evidence as part of a project step, you can add new evidence directly to this portfolio, with a name and rating, or add evidence originally tagged to other skills.
- Portfolio Cell Indicators: Although not part of the modal, the portfolio cells now include indicators to see whether it has a manual override in place (an open circle), and if the manual override is higher or lower than the suggested grade (a dot in the center of the circle) as in this example:
New Learner Portfolio Detail
Ever want to see a learner's evidence across all portfolios in the class? Click on a learner's name on your Class Portfolio to scroll through all of their class Skill Portfolios. The new graph will make it easy to see the range of evidence ratings curated in each portfolio. Links are available to read the skill descriptions and skill level criteria.
Combined Portfolio Detail Page
The new evidence visualization also found its way onto the new Combined Portfolio detail page. Here you can instantly see the Most Recent and Highest Portfolio Grades, as well as the Learner's Self-Rating. You can rate or approve the skill directly in the Combined Portfolio, and even add rated evidence from outside a class.
Archive Classes
When you're done with a class and want to get it out of sight for both teachers and learners, archive it! Both teachers are learners can still access it, perhaps to finish up incomplete work, using a new Active/Archived Classes toggle on the left navigation bar. Don't see the toggle? That means that you don't have any archived classes yet. Facilitators archive classes as an action on the class list in the Classes module. And if you want to hide a class altogether - no longer accessible to anyone - then facilitators can do that too. Both action are also reversible, so you can both Un-Archive and Un-Hide classes.
On the Learner Side
Evidence Status Counts
The Learner's evidence status table is now hidden from view until requested using the toggle. This is helping speed up
load times and reduce the information on the screen.
Colors & Abbreviations
Colors have now found their way into the Learner's experience as
evidence is rated. And the ratings boxes now display each rating's
abbreviation to avoid reliance on hover to understand how they're doing.
In the next few months we will be rolling out some more new features for you. As always, we welcome your feedback and are grateful to be building brighter futures, together.
