Creating Terms and Classes

This information does not apply to Clever Schools. If your school uses Clever, please see For Clever Schools instead.

Terms

LiFT is organized into Terms and Classes. Most typically, Terms mirror a school year. Sometimes, there is a particular flow to a school’s calendar that makes a different period of time more appropriate. If you have questions about the proper time frame for your school’s Term in LiFT, discuss this with your LiFT Team.

Terms are created and activated by your LiFT Team. When each new term is activated, all work from the prior term is archived, but always accessible. By way of example, when you’ve completed your 2021-2022 Term and are ready to begin the new school year, your LiFT Team will create and activate a new term for you for 2022-2023, and all work from the 2021-2022 school year will automatically be archived. This includes Projects that were created during that term and all Evidence that was submitted by learners.

Classes

Within a Term, projects and learner activities are organized into Classes. There are many ways to conceive of classes and LiFT supports them all:

  • Classes can be organized along traditional subject area lines.
  • In some schools, especially schools that engage in multi-disciplinary projects, Classes can be organized by grade level or grade bands.

Classes are created by you as the Facilitator. You assign both Teachers and Learners to each Class. Teacher-created Projects are added to Classes when Learners from a Class are assigned to the Project. Multi-disciplinary or team-taught projects require all participating teachers (and possibly their students) to be assigned to the same class.

Key Takeaways about Terms & Classes

Terms are created and activated by your LiFT Team. You may request a new Term at any time. Your LiFT Team will reach out to you in early August to get an idea of when you are ready to archive the prior Term and activate a new Term for the new school year.

All work (Projects and Evidence) from a prior Term is automatically archived when a new Term is activated.

Teachers are always able to access and retrieve Projects and/or Evidence that were archived in prior terms.

Classes are created by LiFT Facilitators (this doesn’t apply to Clever schools).

Teachers and Learners are assigned to Classes by LiFT Facilitators (this doesn’t apply to Clever schools).
