How to Tag Skills Directly to a Class

How to Tag Skills Directly to a Class

Skills are typically tagged directly to Evidence in your project building. However, LiFT also has the ability to tag skills directly to a class, not associated with any project.

Why might you tag skills directly to a class?

  1. If your school uses two-level skills (commonly called Parent Skills and Child Skills in LiFT parlance), and if your school has a Portfolio Grading policy in place that rolls all related Child Skill ratings into a average rating for the Parent Skill, tagging Parent Skills to the Class creates a container to reflect learning at a broader competency level. LiFT also has the ability to hide the Child Skills in the Class Portfolio view to get a more comprehensive view across all tagged parent skills.
  2. Some skills may be less evidence-based, more observable soft skills such as leadership, engagement, cooperation. Tagging these skills directly to a class gives you a place to evaluate skills outside of a project setting.

To tag skills directly to a class:

In your Class > Projects tab, click on the blue Assign Skills button

Your Skills Framework will open in the center pane. Find and select the Skill(s) you wish to assign and then click the blue Continue button.

Select the learners from that class to whom you wish to assign these skills and then click the blue Assign button.

To delete skills tagged directly to a class:

In your Class > Portfolio tab, place a check mark in the Enable Delete check box in the right corner of your LiFT screen.

With the Enable Delete button checked (it will change to Disable delete), you can click on a portfolio cell for a skill that was assigned directly to the Class and it will be highlighted in a blue box with a check mark in the upper right corner. If a cell doesn't display in the blue box, it wasn't a directly tagged skill and can't be deleted this way.

Click the blue Delete button to effect the deletion of the highlighted skills.
